Terah Started Abraham's Famous Journey

Ask anyone who started Abraham's famous journey to Canaan, and they'll say Abram. Genesis says someone else led it first.
Terah, Abram's father, is the one who takes the family out of Ur, names Canaan as the destination, and leads the way. He never gets there.
What the Text Says
Terah is the subject of the sentence, the one who takes his family and sets the destination:
"And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there."GENESIS 11:31 · KJV
They stop at Haran. The very next verse states why the journey ends there:
"And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran."GENESIS 11:32 · KJV

Genesis names the one who started it, first - Terah appears as the subject of the sentence that sets Canaan as the destination, one verse before Abram ever takes a step on his own.

CAVEATTerah's total age, two hundred and five, is stated directly in the text (Genesis 11:32) - not our own arithmetic, unlike some of the neighboring names in this genealogy.
