Page one and page two of the same book tell the creation story in a different order.
Genesis 1 gives one continuous six-day sequence. Genesis 2 zooms in on one man - and three details land differently.
What the Text Says
In Genesis 1, land animals and humanity - male and female, together - both arrive on day six, after plants that already exist since day three:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."GENESIS 1:27 · KJV
Genesis 2's own wording reads differently. The man is formed and placed in the garden first, alone.
"And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them."GENESIS 2:19 · KJV
The animals are formed and brought to him after he's already in the garden - not before him, the way day six has it.
Even the plants land differently. Genesis 1:11 has them growing on day three, well before humanity. Genesis 2:5 reads as no field plant yet grown at the point the man is formed:
"And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground."GENESIS 2:5 · KJV
The Turn
Animal order, male-and-female timing, plant timing - three separate details, and all three land in a different order between chapter one and chapter two. Same book, facing pages, both left exactly as they are.
Chapter two isn't a second clock running next to chapter one's. One common way to read it: it's a closer-focus retelling of the same week, centered on the man.
That's a reading, not something either chapter states outright. Genesis never flags the switch itself.
